Steve is, first and foremost, a FANTASTIC musician and an excellent teacher. His knowledge on everything theory-related... is invaluable, but more importantly, he really knows how to teach the intangible- areas like style, feel, and nuance. These are what brings the playing to life. I have been a student of his for years, and have developed so much as a player and a musician!read more

I've been a student of Steve's for about 10 years now and I still get blown away anytime he touches a guitar. He has... mastered the instrument so deftly, and does a great job teaching it. His knowledge of not only guitar but also music theory has helped my playing immensely. Every musician has a different ear but Steve has the unique ability to hear a song and immediately say "Oh that's in C Lydian" and will start showing me how he got there and what I can do with it.His musical range is so broad, something that has added to much to my playing. Steve is one of the most talented musicians I've ever met and hands down the greatest guitar teacher I've ever had. Bar none.read more

As a professional musician I played with Steve and when it was time to take my musical knowledge further on guitar I... knew I wanted my teacher to be Steve! Steve is a truly remarkable talent. Steve is a musician and a teacher, a rare combination. We studied so many different styles and techniques, not only did Steve clearly and easily communicate the fundamentals of the music and he has mastery of an inspiring voice on the instrument(s)! Its my belief that this combination is ideal, giving you the best of both worlds for which to pursue your own musical voice.read more

Really cool guy! Steve had me jamming on day 1, which put wind in my sails big time. He dialed in rhythm and guitar... technique. He taught me theory through jamming. You need a private teacher like Steve because he listens to you and watches what you are doing and then isolates issues to give you the custom guitar lesson you need for what you want to work toward. Internet guitar lessons do not give you this. I needed someone to get under the hood of my guitar playing, because even an advanced player needs an outside perspective on what needs improvement. Steve took me as a beginning guitar player and gave me that outside perspective. The environment for guitar lessons was very comfortable, which was very important for me when I was starting out because I was pretty timid. Steve got me out of my shell and has always made learning a lot of fun and very productive. I have taken lessons from numerous top guitar teachers, what is special about Steve Cunningham is that he knows the music theory, has guitar chops, AND he is just real fun to play guitar with, which is not true of many guitar teachers. I went to Steve Cunningham because he IS the best guitar teacher that I have ever heard of; I KEEP going back to Steve Cunningham for guitar lessons because he is the most fun guitar teacher.read more

After playing guitar on and off for over 30 years a friend of mine introduced me to Steve. I have taken lessons in the... past from more than a few others. I considered myself a decent player, however I really didn’t totally understand music theory. For many years I lived in the pentatonic world. Steve helped me progress past that and move to the next level when it came to musicality. Working with Steve, was very comfortable. He is an amazing person in addition to an unbelievable musician. He is extremely patient and has helped me to open up my playing to a much higher level. In my opinion, Steve is probably the best teacher and guitar player around. I would definitely recommend all levels of players contact Steve and set up a lesson time. You will not be sorry!read more

I took several years of lessons with Steve and couldn’t be happier. I’ve played guitar for more than 40 years and have... very diverse interests. Steve was great at helping me explore every angle I wanted to pursue and, in the meantime, had a keen ear for identifying the underlying development areas I have as a musician. I would strongly recommend him to players at any level and with interests in any style.read more

I was looking for someone to show me the quickest and easiest way to learn music theory. Steve Cunningham was... recommended to me by one of Atlanta’s best musicians, Tom Grose. Steve’s approach was exactly what I needed. He took Music theory and applied it to music I was already familiar with and put it into context for me. Furthermore, Steve helped me branch out into other genres and expand my playing ability much faster than I could do it alone or with YouTube videos. If you would like to quickly improve you’re playing or technique, I highly recommend Steve !read more

I’m an experienced player and I was looking for a great slide guitar teacher. I did a web search and found Steve. When... I heard his playing I was blown away, so I sent him an email. Steve is the best kind of teacher- kind, humble, articulate and creative. He is not only one of the best players in the Atlanta metro area, he’s an excellent instructor who pushes you out of your comfort zone and brings you along with great tips and technique.read more
